Real-time ridesharing is revolutionizing transportation around the world. To track this fascinating, rapidly growing industry, I created ridesharetips.com.
Here you’ll find tips for both riders and drivers of Uber, Lyft, Sidecar, and other ridesharing services. I also track industry news and analyze how the business is impacting the way we drive and live.
New to ridesharing? Learn how to use rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft on this page. You can also get promo codes that will give you $20 or $25 off your first ride.
Driving for Uber and Lyft is a great, flexible side gig that makes decent money if you’re willing to work hard. But when I searched the web, I found few resources for drivers or riders, aside from the information provided by the ridesharing companies themselves.
RideshareTips fills that gap by providing an independent view on ridesharing that seeks to help both riders and drivers make the most of the system.
I’ve been a journalist most of my career, including eight years as a newspaper reporter. I’m also a data viz nerd and serve as editor of EcoWest.org, a site that tracks environmental trends, so I want to apply those analytical chops to this burgeoning, global industry.
For me, driving for Uber and Lyft has been a fantastic alternative to my day job sitting at a desk and staring into a computer screen. I’ve met funny, fascinating people (plus my share drunk idiots). I’ve enjoyed epiphanies about Denver’s culture and zeitgeist. And I’ve learned tons of shortcuts around town.
As with the cannabis industry, Denver and Colorado are helping pioneer a national and global experiment with ridesharing. Colorado was the first state to officially authorize Uber and Lyft, and I can report firsthand that business is booming along the Front Range urban corridor.
By sharing my story, I hope to help fellow riders and drivers in Colorado and beyond save time and money while using real-time ridesharing.
Have a question or suggestion about the site? Please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m also anxious to work with other journalists, especially on data-related projects.
Thanks for visiting, and welcome aboard!
